CBS News Considers Cutting 100 Jobs

CBS News, which continues to lag in ratings, could cut as many as 100 jobs next week in an effort to reduce costs. Even its venerable newsmagazine ’60 Minutes’ is expected to feel the knife, according to multiple reports.The cuts would equal about 7 percent of the department’s entire staff, though an executive at CBS told the Los Angeles Times the cuts could be fewer.
‘The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric’ and ‘The Early Show’ are both a distant third in ratings behind NBC and ABC. CBS hopes the cuts will allow its newsgathering unit to be a bigger factor in its bottom line.
