The times, they are a changin’, and Macy’s is changing with them, according to a company spokesman. The retail giant is beefing up its e-commerce division, adding 725 e-commerce positions and another 2,775 people for new and expanding product distribution centers.
Macy’s reported robust growth for online shopping this holiday season but was ranked 34th in a poll ranking online retailers conducted by ForSee Results. Some analysts believe that boosting the company’s online presence won’t solve underlying problems and that the only long term solution is to lower prices. The number one complaint in the ForSee survey was that Macy’s didn’t match other online retailer’s prices. Hiring additional staff for the e-commerce department won’t solve that.
