Over 750 new jobs are on the way as General Motors announced it would increase production at a plant making trucks in Flint, Michigan. GM officials said that a third daily shift will be added to its Flint facility, which is the plant for heavy-duty versions of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. The multinational company said that workers previously included in massive lay offs from other GM plants, about 3,000 employees nationwide, are being considered to fill the new posts. GM plans to relocate those laid off workers from other plants in Michigan.

Mark Reuss, the president of GM’s American operations, said that the hiring will be on a staggered basis because the economy is still volatile. “The company would proceed cautiously in adding jobs, carefully monitoring demand to avoid having too much production capacity because the economy is still fragile.” GM currently employs about 2,100 hourly and salaried workers at its flint headquarters. The hiring is slated for the second quarter.
