The State of Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell revealed that around 140 new jobs are on the way as two environment-friendly companies plan to expand in Southwest Virginia soon. The upcoming investment is expected to boost the local employment in SWVA, which is currently one of the most depressed regions of the state.

Dove Vinyl Windows Inc., a Pennsylvania-based company that manufactures windows and other products that are all environmentally friendly, committed to a $2 million investment to open its first manufacturing plant in the state. The company is targeting to build their plant in Pulaski County that will result in the hiring of over 100 workers. Bruce Dove Jr., general manager of Dove Vinyl, said that they chose SWVA due to its strategic location. “The southwest corner of Virginia was chosen as an expansion location due to its proximity to our current customer base and with ideas of further territory expansion. The highway system is ideal for distribution of our products. Moreover, the New River Valley has shown us that they have a labor force that we can partner with and succeed.”

Meanwhile, Guardian Industries plans to allot $2.1 million for the expansion of their operations in its Galax plant that currently produces new environment-friendly types of mirrors. Dennis Carroll, plant manager, stated that Galax is a crucial location therefore the company looks forward to expanding their Consolidated Glass & Mirror facility in the city. “Guardian and Consolidated have a long history in Galax, and we are excited to expand our operations here. This is a pro-business community with a great work force. We appreciate the assistance from the commonwealth, the City of Galax, and Virginia’s aCorridor in making this project a reality.”
