This role is a highly technical and/or specialized professional position responsible for supporting research by organizing and driving consistent in vivo technical skills and training with research staff within our multi-building, multi-discipline research program. Perform supplemental tasks in assisting the Manager and coordinating LAS staff activities as it relates to specific team scheduling, implementation, and other delegated programmatic oversight duties as specified

Major Accountabilities:

• Primarily responsible for daily, hands-on technical in vivo research support/training

• Often responsible for delegation of work and time, quality control and team development and oversight

• Routinely responsible for managing assigned research support and liaising regularly with assigned research department personnel

• Routinely responsible for pursuing and providing learning/professional development opportunities, enhancing/expanding skill set, and reviewing LAS SOPs/techniques

• Responsible for ensuring compliance with all institutional and regulatory protocols, policies, and guidelines

• Other duties and responsibilities as may be required.

Key Performance Indicators:

• Provide consistent and high quality on-site scientific in vivo support and training

• Proactively meet and exceed customer service expectations

• Liaise with research community for comprehension of scientific rational behind techniques and procedures

• Delegate work through appropriate time management, team evaluation and schedule maintenance

• Train and evaluate new Associates to proficiency on applicable techniques

• Organize and delegate in vivo support and training sessions for teammates

• Identify and coach high and low performers

• Effectively gain certification and proficiency on all applicable technical skills as required by the job

• Create and implement peer/team development opportunities and team building exercises

• Ensure compliance with all internal and external regulatory agencies in accordance with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals

• Independently identify, run and complete advancement projects

• Continuously pursue and provide educational and professional development opportunities to enhance and expand relevant personal and team skills and knowledge

Minimum requirements


• 4-year Science degree, or an equivalent combination of experience along with higher education are required

• Veterinary technician certification (based on location) desired

• LATg Certification desirable or pursued after start

• Excellent mathematic & compound dose/volume administration calculation skills

• Superior written and oral communication and data documentation skills required

• Strong knowledge of applicable scientific areas of focus

• Working knowledge of federal, state, local (Animal Welfare) laws, departmental SOP’s and Good Laboratory Practices.

• Thorough understanding and comprehension of operational facts, techniques, nomenclature, equipment, theories, etc. as they relate specifically to job performance function in the laboratory animal research environment


• Minimum 7 - 12 years’ experience in a technical skills tract laboratory animal program required
