POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position provides imaging support in the form of daily scan coverage, complex analysis as directed per protocol, image interpretation, and consulting services as needed. The role assists physicians, scientists, study directors, sponsors and staff with continuously identifying opportunities to improve key service functions that will increase or achieve high levels of customer satisfaction, while facilitating the complex multi-and inter-disciplinary care unique to Medtronic PRL. The role is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key business units to ensure quality data collection and collaboration. The role is responsible for the daily operation and animal care activities in the imaging specialty he or she has been assigned. The role assists with equipment selection, planning and personnel decisions. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: * Perform imaging at PRL: * Operates imaging equipment independently as needed by staff's specific role such as MRI, CT, TEE, ICE, TTE, etc. * Perform imaging exams as assigned which may include but not be limited to: cardiac, vascular, brain, and spine. * Perform basic image analysis such as creating reports with anatomical and functional measurements, assessing images for abnormalities, etc. * Monitor patient care in the designated imaging department. * Support animal and human cadaver studies. * Monitors and controls quality assurance for imaging equipment, if applicable. * Troubleshoot imaging issues, equipment, and procedure related. * Continually evaluates and improves the process and procedures used to collect images. * Work with sponsors to create imaging plans and protocols for execution within a study. * Serve as an imaging expert within a given modality: * Perform complex image analysis and interpretation such as infarct analysis, image reconstruction, etc. * Trains and advises new employees/contractors to routine imaging protocols and specialized studies. * Provide presentations, conduct tours, and training to Medtronic technical community. * Advanced knowledge of procedures, sufficient to inform study directors and sponsors in the event that abnormal results are obtained; ability to recognize and identify symptoms, exercise judgment, and react appropriately in emergency situations. * Role in staffing considerations such as interviewing and selecting new hires, general oversight of each imaging modality, work with upper management to further the goals of the department as needed. * Point of contact for billing questions, time availability, and general questions that pertain to imaging equipment. * Proactively assess upcoming resource needs including staff, equipment, and supplies to ensure customer needs are met and make recommendations to PRL leadership. Other duties may include: * Support of PRL's compliance to radiation regulations. * Operation of X-ray or fluoroscopy equipment. * Support of human cadaver programs. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION REQUIRED: * High school graduate or equivalent. Associate's degree program in radiologic technology or veterinary technician * Graduate of an approved program within the specific imaging modality (U/S, MRI, CT). YEARS OF EXPERIENCE * Minimum 2 years of experience performing imaging in a health care or research setting. SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED * Experience working in a regulated environment. * Ability to recognize normal and abnormal basic human anatomy, physiology, and pathology. * Basic knowledge of DICOM image storage and manipulation within a PACS system. DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (optional) * Cardiac experience, Medis and or Mimics analysis software. * Bachelor's degree in health care, life sciences or related field. * Experience with multiple/alternative scanning procedures. * Good computer skills, Excel, Word, Access and Outlook scheduling. * Flexibility in scheduling to allow sponsors latitude when planning studies. * Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with customers, sponsors, study directors and other employees, gaining their confidence and cooperation. * Ability to work in a team environment. PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: Physical capabilities to perform the job * ENVIRONMENT * No known allergies to animals MOBILITY/DEXTERITY * Physically able to handle a wide variety of research animals * Physically able to walk, stand, bend, reach, stoop/squat and crouch. LIFTING * Physically able to lift 50 lbs, standing, pushing, carrying. GLP REQUIREMENTS: Employees must conform to the SOP's and documentation that applies to their work areas. This includes proper documentation techniques, updating the SOP's, training on the SOP's and knowledge of the GLP regulations that apply to their area.
