Major Gifts Officer
The Animal Medical Center (AMC),
located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is one of the finest veterinary teaching hospitals in North America. Founded in 1906, AMC’s collaborative team of board certified veterinarians, residents, interns and licensed veterinary technicians perform cutting-edge veterinary medicine and research, offering emergency, specialty and primary care services to 43,000 companion animals every year.
AMC raises $10 million in philanthropic support annually, and is preparing for a capital and endowment campaign. We are seeking Major Gifts Officer (MGO) to join our team. The MGO will increase support from individuals who may be campaign prospects through the Golden Paw Society and the President’s Council. This is a hands-on position that requires cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals as well as design and implementation of the Golden Paw Society and President’s Council programs. The MGO reports to the Executive Director of Development (EDD).S
Manage the Golden Paws Society and President’s Council programs. Create and put into operation an annual plan and schedule to secure new donors, renew and upgrade current donors.
Develop and carry out strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing individual donor prospects. The MGO will make solicitations as well as staff solicitations of the CEO, EDD, Trustees and other volunteers.
Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of assigned prospects. Manage relationships with donors and prospects through in-person hospital visits, phone calls, meetings, tours and events.
With input from the EDD, coordinate an effective program for recognition, involvement and stewardship of major and special gift donors.
Collaborate with veterinary staff and engage them in fundraising programs.
Write acknowledgments, solicitation letters, proposals, publication copy and other correspondence and documents.
Manage and coordinate AMC’s participation and fundraising involvement in the New York City Triathlon from application to the race to being present on race day.
Manage the production of Development Department publications including the annual report.

A bachelor’s degree
Five to seven years of development and personal solicitation experience
Excellent writing and communication skills
Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
Goal- and deadline-driven
Ability to plan and complete multiple projects at simultaneously
Working knowledge of RaisersEdge and Microsoft Office
Interest in and ability to be comfortable around companion animals is essential.
