Veterinary Technician - OphthalmologyOphthalmology - North Andover, Ma - Full Time Summary: The ophthalmology department is looking to hire a Veterinary Technician to join our busy ophthalmology department. An ophthalmology technician works closely with the ophthalmologist to assist in their surgical and medical treatment of eye problems. They will provide support and customized care of our ophtho client and patients.Responsibilities:Assist with consults in the exam roomsTake history, perform STT, evaluate PLR, conduct preliminary evaluation of anterior chamber and notify the doctor of any irregularitiesPerform tonometry, fluorescein stain and dilateRecord information in client\/patient medical record during examPresent treatment plans and explain procedures to clients as neededExplain medications, discharge instructions and treatments with the owners to assure they understand the doctor's instructionsAssist with ophthalmologic proceduresBecome proficient in the use and care of specialized ophthalmic surgical equipment and microsurgical instrumentsAssist and monitor recovery of post op patientsHospitalized Patient CareCommunicate daily with the treatment technicians regarding the care of hospitalized ophtho patients to ensure completion of scheduled treatments.Provide updates on ophtho patients to their owners as necessaryEnsure cleanliness and maintain ophtho areas and equipmentMaintain stock in the ophtho exam roomsAssist with follow up phone calls as neededPerform other duties as assignedSkills and Experience:Minimum of 3 years' experience as a practicing veterinary technicianComprehensive understand and experience with anesthetic monitoring is requiredAbility to become well versed in Veterinary Ophthalmology in order to provide best medicine and ensure effective client communicationThe ophthalmology technician:Must be reliable, organized, and adaptable to changes within the departments of the hospitalWill maintain a high standard of patient careMust be able to communicate well with clients by showing care and concern for them as well as their pet(s)Will serve as a representative of the hospital, displaying consideration, courtesy, compassion, and professionalism in all interactions with patients, clients, and hospital staffEducation, License and Job Requirements: Candidates with an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology will be considered.CVT, LVT, or VTS preferredAbility to work in a highly collaborative environment and commitment to develop long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community is required.Maintain a positive outlook and ability to work well in a collaborative environment.Excellent communication and organizational skills are required, and the ability to deliver exceptional client service is expected.About Bulger Veterinary Hospital: Bulger is a full-service hospital that offers comprehensive care that includes General Practice, 24-hour Emergency Services, and Specialty Medicine in the areas of Ophthalmology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Cardiology.Mission: Our mission is to advance the veterinary profession through our leadership in medicine, education, business and promotion of the human-animal bond.
