Searching for veterinarian jobs and employment? Veterinarians are physicians of animals and they practice veterinary medicine. Veterinarians who work in a clinical setting have limited field experience like pet medicine and livestock medicine. Veterinarians can also specialize in other disciplines like dermatology, surgery, or internal medicine for animals after they get their post graduate certifications and trainings.

There are also veterinarians who go and do research careers and contributed advances in veterinary medical fields and even in human medicine. They have contributed in the treatment of malaria and found treatments for heart diseases and organ transplants. There are different veterinarians careers that specialize in different fields and each of them play an important part in the institutions where they work.

Some of the work of veterinarians includes diagnoses of animal health problems, performing diagnostic tests like x ray, ultrasound, EKG, stool tests, blood tests and urinalysis, performing vaccinations against diseases such as rabies and distemper, treat and dresses animal wounds, sets fractures, and provide preventive care in order to maintain the health of animals. They also medicate those animals suffering from diseases and infections, perform minor and complex surgery, advise owners about the proper way of taking care of animals and understanding their behavior, do dental examination and treatment and vaccinate animals against other diseases.

Veterinarian employment can be found in the government and private institutions but some practice and work by themselves without an employer. Those veterinarians who do not have their own practice have a median salary of $70,000 to $91,000 a year. In the federal government of the United States, veterinarians receive $ 70,000 to $85,000 depending of the years of their veterinary experience. Veterinarians who own their practice earn more ranging from $100,000 to $250,000 depending on the years of experience, the location, competition, and other contributing factors.

If you want to earn more you have to specialize because veterinary specialist earns more than general veterinarians. Their starting salary ranges from $150,000 to $350,000 depending on their field of specialization. Most specialties in veterinary encompass both medical and surgical specialties that are also found in human medicine, but some specialties evolve. Some of the specialization in veterinary is cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, animal behavior, endocrinology, nutrition, infectious diseases, epidemiology, internal medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, parasitology, soft tissue surgery, and urology.

Some of the currently posted veterinarian jobs are for a regulatory veterinarian, associate veterinarian, veterinarian assistant, associate emergency veterinarian, lead associate veterinarian, staff veterinarian, certified veterinary technician, registered veterinary technician, veterinarian scientist, wildlife veterinarian, public health veterinarian, clinical research veterinarian, general practice veterinarian, and many more. There are a lot more veterinarian jobs being posted by different institutions and companies on the internet as well.

The average yearly paid for veterinarian is $89,450 as of 2008. Veterinarian jobs are good careers and have good future opportunities. They are expected to go up compared to other occupations through the coming years. The reason behind that is that more people start to love animals and pets and are willing to pay for their pet’s medical care. It is expected that pets like dogs and cats will continually increase than large animals and health care of these animals are crucial for owners that only veterinary jobs can answer. If you love pets and you love to care for their health then this job is for you but since competition is tight in this type of career, training is important. What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
